According to Bunyoro tradition, the King is faultless and blameless. However, the Omukama Solomon Iguru Thursday did an unprecedented act when he prayed for God’s forgiveness for evils committed by past Kings and his subjects.

Iguru also dedicated the kingdom to God during the first-ever convention held by Christian church leaders on the transformation of Bunyoro kingdom. The four-day convention attracted over 2,000 participants who gathered at St. Peters Cathedral, in Duhaga, Hoima town.

“We ask for God forgiveness of our sins, and those of our forefathers. We repent the sins that have led to divisionism in Bunyoro. For idolatry, witchcraft, shedding of blood, slavery and slave trade, jealousness, corruption, sexual promiscuity, rape and defilement of the dignity of women and children,” Iguru prayed.

The convention was organised to dedicate the kingdom to God, as well as deliberate on the role that Christian leaders have to play to bring Bunyoro kingdom to prosperity in line with the national roadmap of Vision 2040.

Iguru called for a new beginning in people’s lives, calling for unity amongst his subjects, and Ugandans, and for God’s wisdom to guide him in leading the traditional institution of Bunyoro.

“May we look at each other as God’s children, and we pray for God’s wisdom to guide us as we lead our people to national prosperity. We dedicate our Kingdom to you so that you are our God. We want Bunyoro to be renowned as a kingdom that fears God; because the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. We break all pacts with idols and local gods, which have bound Bunyoro. And I make a pact with God forever and ever,” prayed Iguru.

Omukama Iguru said that in the Bible, leaders who feared God such as King David, received blessings from God; while leaders who did not, were exiled, such as King Nebuchadnezzar.

“God gave us the resource of oil. Let us ask him for wisdom to use the oil resource well. Let us not be divided, but work together for development and prosperity,” added Iguru.

During the convention, the church leaders discussed strategies and made resolutions to overcome the bottlenecks that have hindered prosperity in Bunyoro kingdom. Present were Ministers and Members of Parliament from Bunyoro region, kingdom officials, and LC 5 chairpersons from the five districts of Bunyoro region.

The convention also appointed a board that will spearhead the spiritual transformation of Bunyoro kingdom. The board includes Pastor Nicholas Kasaija of Hoima Christian Fellowship Church, Pastor Sam Muhumuza of Revival Ministry Hoima.

Others include Fr. Robert Mugisa and Fr. Peter Kibuuka of Hoima Catholic Diocese; Bishop Nathan Kyamanywa of Bunyoro Kitara diocese, and Bishop George William Kasangaki of Masindi Kitara diocese. Also Omukama is the patron of the convention board.

The church leaders signed a declaration in which they made a commitment to ensure that God’s original plan and purpose for Bunyoro is fulfilled in the next 50 years.

“Bunyoro is covenanted to the Most High God as supreme ruler of the land. We commit ourselves to live according to the aspirations of the national motto For God and My Country; and the Bunyoro Kingdom motto, The Fear of God is the beginning of wisdom,” the church leaders declared.

Museveni dedicates Uganda to God

Publish Date: Oct 09, 2012

By Moses Mulondo

President Yoweri Museveni has repented his sins and the sins of Uganda as a nation in a move aimed at establishing Uganda as a God-fearing nation.

The President made this historic move at Mandela National stadium Namboole in the early morning of today (Tuesday) at 2:00am during national prayers for dedicating Uganda to God.

“I denounce witchcraft and satanic practices. I repent on behalf of Uganda. We confess our sins. We repent of the sins of shedding innocent blood, corruption, bribery, sexual immorality, drunkenness, rebellion, insubordination, tribalism and sectarianism,” Museveni repented amidst ululations from the Christians.

The president dedicated Uganda to God to be his nation anchored on his principles and values.

The President, indicating that the next 50 years belong to the young generation, advised the young people to be God-fearing referring to the Biblical verse in Proverbs 9:10 which says, “The fear of God is beginning of wisdom.”

For the young people who are still in school, he used Ecclesiastes 3:1 which says there is time for everything to advise them to concentrate on their books and abstain from sex.

For those who have completed studies, he advised them to look for more skills, jobs, and start families established on God’s principles.

He advised the youth to keep fit through physical exercises and sports activities and to help their parents.

The prayers were organized by Uganda Jubilee Network, an association of Anglican, evangelical and Pentecostal churches.

The network, coordinated by Dr. James Magara of Intercessors for Uganda, has been guiding Christians to fast and pray for Uganda to be a God fearing nation in the next 50 years.

“The jubilee season provides us with an opportune time to seek and return to the Lord. It is a time for liberty, amnesty, family reunion, justice, debt release, economic emancipation, restoration and chance to reset the clock and start over again,” Magara said.

The President’s seeds of wisdom to the young people fell on the fertile soil which had been already cultivated by the church leaders.

Earlier, the church of Uganda archbishop elect, Stanley Ntagali, called upon the religious and political leaders to repent and put right what had gone wrong arguing that jubilee is about restitution and attaining God’s eternal life after forgiveness.

Drawing from Exodus 4:22 where God said Israel is his first born son, Born Again Faith leader, Dr. Joseph Serwadda, prayed to God to make Uganda his second born son established on his values and principles of love, righteousness and justice.

Apostle Alex Mitala, who became the most captivating preacher, preached a radical message lambasting the young people over indecent dressing like miniskirts which expose their wickedness.

At the end of his speech, hundreds of youths came out and repented of indecent dressing which does not glorify God and recommitted their lives to God.

Rev. Simon Peter Emiau said no matter how many times Ugandans pray, God will not intervene in the affairs of our country without fulfilling the conditions in 2chronicles 7:14 of repenting and turning away from wicked ways.

Calling upon church leaders and Christians to repent, Apostle Charles Tumwine attributed the current high level of immorality in the country to the wickedness/darkness in the church arguing that what happens in a nation is usually a replica of the state of the church.

The believers were entertained by various choirs and artists who included American celebrated singer Judy Jacobs of Days of Elijah song and Pastor Wilson Bugembe who thrilled the gathering with his Biribabitya and Nangirira Omwaka Gwamukama Ogwemirembe.

The believers also prayed for Uganda’s media and communication, arts and entertainment, the judiciary, parliament, cabinet, the president, local governments, churches, and the education sector that they will all be revived on God’s principles and values of righteousness, love and justice.

President Museveni dedicates Uganda to God

The President of Uganda has repented of past sins and dedicated his nation to Almighty God.

President Yoweri Museveni made history last month at the National Jubilee Prayers in Namboole, when he openly repented of his sins and the sins of Uganda, according to Moses Mulondo of New Vision.

Uganda has been targetted in recent years by wealthy Western homosexual activists, furious at that country’s opposition to pro-sodomy activism.

Both President Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni have warned of the dangers posed to individuals and society by sodomy.  But the subject did not warrant a mention in the President’s prayer, as he concentrated on repentance for sins and rededication of the nation to God.

President Museveni said:

Father God in heaven, today we stand here as Ugandans, to thank you for Uganda. We are proud that we are Ugandans and Africans. We thank you for all your goodness to us.

I stand here today to close the evil past and especially in the last 50 years of our national leadership history and at the threshold of a new dispensation in the life of this nation. I stand here on my own behalf and on behalf of my predecessors to repent. We ask for your forgiveness.

We confess these sins, which have greatly hampered our national cohesion and delayed our political, social and economic transformation.

We confess sins of idolatry and witchcraft which are rampant in our land. We confess sins of shedding innocent blood, sins of political hypocrisy, dishonesty, intrigue and betrayal.

Forgive us of sins of pride, tribalism and sectarianism; sins of laziness, indifference and irresponsibility; sins of corruption and bribery that have eroded our national resources; sins of sexual immorality, drunkenness and debauchery; sins of unforgiveness, bitterness, hatred and revenge; sins of injustice, oppression and exploitation; sins of rebellion, insubordination, strife and conflict.

These sins and many others have characterised our past leadership, especially the last 50 years of our history. Lord forgive us and give us a new beginning. Give us a heart to love you, to fear you and to seek you. Take away from us all the above sins.

We pray for national unity. Unite us as Ugandans and eliminate all forms of conflict, sectarianism and tribalism. Help us to see that we are all your children, children of the same Father. Help us to love and respect one another and to appreciate unity in diversity.

We pray for prosperity and transformation. Deliver us from ignorance, poverty and disease. As leaders, give us wisdom to help lead our people into political, social and economic transformation.

We want to dedicate this nation to you so that you will be our God and guide. We want Uganda to be known as a nation that fears God and as a nation whose foundations are firmly rooted in righteousness and justice to fulfil what the Bible says in Psalm 33:12: Blessed is the nation, whose God is the Lord. A people you have chosen as your own.

I renounce all the evil foundations and covenants that were laid in idolatry and witchcraft. I renounce all the satanic influence on this nation. And I hereby covenant Uganda to you, to walk in your ways and experience all your blessings forever.

I pray for all these in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Christian Leaders React
The Church of Uganda Archbishop elect, Stanley Ntagali said the prayer was a step in the right direction. That it was appropriate for the head of state to repent of his sins and the sins of Ugandans.

The leader of Pentecostal churches, Apostle Alex Mitala, said the prayer was the beginning of the healing of a nation. “All the nations we read about in the Bible were healed when their leaders repented and acknowledged God’s supremacy,” he said. Mitala urged Ugandans to turn away from their wicked ways.

Pastor Dr. Martin Kalibbala of New Testament Covenant Church warned that the fruits of repentance are what matter. “If you repent of stealing, God expects you to immediately stop stealing. If the President’s repentance is genuine, it will be measured on God’s yardstick of bearing the fruits of repentance,” he said.

Pastor Dr. Martin Ssempa of Makerere Community Church said it was a good thing for the President to repent on his behalf and on behalf of the nation. He commended those who encouraged and helped the President prepare the prayer, adding that God will answer it.

“We hope the President’s repentance will result into greater obedience to God by the executive, which he heads.”

Stephen Green of Christian Voice in the United Kingdom said: “President Museveni has set a standard which other national leaders would do well to emulate.  All the sins which the President has identified in Uganda are present in Britain and America under different names.  All governments need to root out corruption, wickedness and injustice and return to God.”

PRESIDENT CHILUBA dedicates zambia to God

TEXT OF INAUGURAL ADDRESS OF PRESIDENT CHILUBA, ZAMBIA,
GIVEN 'AT THE PILLAR' ACCORDING TO 2 KINGS 23:3,
AT THE STATE HOUSE IN LUSAKA, SUNDAY 29TH DECEMBER, 1991.

http://www.servingthenations.org/old/nations/inaugural_address_chiluba.htm

'As you might remember, my first function after I was sworn in as the President of Zambia was to pray to my Heavenly Father. That was not just a part of the ceremony, but it was a prayer of thankfulness born out of my personal convictions that the change we have witnessed in Zambia in 1991 has only been possible because of the grace of God. It is therefore only natural that we have this solemn occasion here today, whereby I - on behalf of the Zambian nation - enter into a covenant with the one true God, whose love and saving grace is revealed in God the Son, Jesus Christ. I personally testify to the mighty saving power of Jesus Christ, who said in John 14:6, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father accept through me.'

'When we talk about entering into a covenant with God as a nation, then it is only possible because God took the first initiative by sending Jesus to die for the sins of the world. Jesus established a new covenant through the shedding of his blood. Jesus says in Luke 22:20, 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.' It is only on the basis of the blood of Jesus atoning for our sins that we can approach God today.

The Bible, which is the word of God, abounds with proof that a nation is blessed, whenever it enters into a covenant with God and obeys the word of God. The opposite is also true. Any nation that turns its back on God and turns to idolatry and wickedness will come under the judgment of God and suffer. God says in Jeremiah 7:23, 'I gave Israel this command: Obey me and I will be your God and you will be my people. Walk in all the ways I command you, that it may go well with you.'
My dear fellow Zambians, all God's commandments in the Bible have this purpose: That it go well with you. I sincerely wish that it may go well with every one of you individually and with all of us nationally. Therefore let us understand what is involved in keeping a covenant with God and let us decide to obey his commands.

In a covenant there are certain things we have to do, and there are other things that God promises to do. We have to humble ourselves and repent from our wicked ways. Then God promises to forgive and heal the land. God told King Solomon in 2 Chronicles 7:14, 'If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin and will heal their land.' During the time of election many Christians were praying according to this Bible verse. The church of Jesus Christ was praying like this both because of the desperate situation in the nation and because of the conviction that the initiative in national affairs is with God and his people.

'You have heard me before compare the nation with a sick person. I have said: 'We are sick and weak, but we are still alive. And we are determined to get well again.' Today I want to say to all of you: We need God to heal our land! I will therefore now do my part of the covenant, as I will identify myself with the Zambian nation in the following prayer:

'Dear God, as a nation we now come to your throne of grace, and we humble ourselves and admit our guilt. We repent from all our wicked ways of idolatry, witchcraft, the occult, immorality, injustice and corruption and all other sins that have violated your righteous laws. We turn away from all this and renounce it all in Jesus' name. We ask for forgiveness and cleansing through the blood of Jesus. Therefore we thank you that you will heal our land. We pray that you will send healing, restoration, revival, blessing and prosperity to Zambia. Amen.'

'On behalf of the nation I have now entered into a covenant with the living God, and therefore I want to make the following declaration:

'I declare today that I submit myself as president to the lordship of Jesus Christ. I likewise submit the government and the entire nation of Zambia to the lordship of Jesus Christ. I further declare that Zambia is a Christian nation, that will seek to be governed by the Righteous Principles of the word of God. Righteousness and justice must prevail in all levels of authority, and then we will see the righteousness of God exalting Zambia.'

'My fellow Zambians, let this message reach all civil servants in all government departments. The time of corruption and bribery is over. For too long these wicked practices have been destroying and tearing down the nation. Now the hour has come for building up. The hour has come for stability. Proverbs 29:4 declares that one who is greedy for bribes tears down the nation, but by justice a king - or a president - gives a country stability. The book of Romans, 13:11, urges us to understand the present time as the hour has come for us to wake up from our slumber, because our salvation is near. The night is nearly over and the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.

'My fellow Zambians. A new dawn has come to Zambia. May God bless us and help us all to live according to his Righteous Law.'
